So you’re a Medium

A question or response I get when I share with people some of the work I do. Ten years ago I would not have imagined I would be doing Mediumship. I had some images in my head of a dramatic seance from movies or mediums doing their work in front of large audiences, etc.  I have been studying and practicing a variety of spiritual modalities for most of my adult life, but didn’t see this for myself.  It felt outside of my comfort zone and ability.

My journey to mediumship started with a class.  Along with the difficulties of the covid shutdown, emerged a new world of online spiritual classes.  I was thrilled to get a chance to step back into my spiritual work and take some classes again online.  The first class I took was about strengthening your intuition which I thoroughly enjoyed.  I signed up for the next class, not thinking to look at the title, assuming it was something like Intuition II. When I first logged in and found out it was a mediumship class, I almost left the call but my curiosity invited me to stay.

Many things happened for me during that first class.  I found out that mediumship is a far less mysterious process than I had imagined and it can be a very loving, gentle and healing experience. I also had to overcome my own feelings about doing this type of work.  This was really a jumping off point for me to decide to lean into where I felt led and guided and release my fear of doing less “conventional” type spiritual work. It was also a chance to revisit an experience I had at 19 during a week-long retreat about expanding consciousness.   At the retreat one evening, I felt some intense energy flowing through me and words to be spoken but I quickly shut it down.  I was now being invited back into this space after a very long time, to explore and study this type of work.

I was also incredibly fortunate for my first class to have wonderful teachers.  Their approach was gentle and they created a relaxing safe space for us to learn, explore and practice this new process for us.  I really appreciated having a safe space to practice opening up my energy field to receive this information and exploring and learning how I personally receive, process and communicate the information. Some of the more challenging parts for me were to trust in the connection and to not censor information I was being given. Nothing shuts your energy down faster than being stressed, that you won’t make a connection, get any information or the “right” information!  Through practice, I learned to trust the process, (i.e. should I really communicate I see Uncle Bob in a pink tutu - yes you should :).  Information can be literal, metaphorical, or it may not register with your client for days, weeks or months, or perhaps not resonate at all etc.  We don’t always know as the medium and it’s up to the person receiving to interpret the information coming through or decide it just doesn't resonate.

Once I began to feel more comfortable with the process through continued study and practice, I was really able to see and experience the beautiful aspects of it.  Every reading is unique and I feel a great deal of gratitude to witness and facilitate the connections. It is also my desire to have this process feel accessible so that once people feel and/or experience the connection they will know they can communicate with their loved one anytime.

I have come to feel strongly that each medium is as unique as every person and we all do this work in our own unique way.  I really appreciated the teachers I had who focused on becoming the best medium for YOU.  For me personally, the important aspects of mediumship are the medium having an open heart, having the highest and best intentions for all involved, and that the messages are of a loving, helpful and healing nature.

For those on a spiritual journey of exploration, I invite you to stay open, follow your inner guidance as to where you are feeling called and led.  For those on their own journey of personal growth, this is also an invitation to explore a new interest, hobby or area of study. You may end up in places and doing work you might not have once imagined.

Be Well
