By accessing this website and/or making a booking, you acknowledge and agree to the items outlined in this document. It describes what this work is, what it is not, and where your responsibility begins. These Disclaimers form part of our Terms and Conditions, and by booking a session or using this website you confirm that you have read and understood them.
1. The Nature of This Work
Returning to Self, LLC, through Dianne Maxon, practices intuitive and spiritual guidance and coaching along with mediumship. This work is offered sincerely, in good faith, and from genuine belief. It is presented for informational and entertainment purposes only. It is also, by its nature:
Subjective. What comes through in a session is filtered through a human being's perception, vocabulary, and understanding. Two practitioners may perceive the same situation differently.
Interpretive. Impressions, symbols, and images require interpretation, and interpretations can be wrong.
Unverified. Mediumship and energy work are not established by scientific evidence. No claim made in a session has been validated by any scientific, medical, or regulatory body.
Not predictive in any binding sense. Nothing said in a session determines your future. Your choices do.
We ask you to receive this work in the spirit in which it is offered: as material for your own reflection, prayer, or discernment — never as instruction, prediction, diagnosis, or a fact you should act on without independent judgment.
2. No Guarantee of Accuracy, Content, or Outcome
Returning to Self, LLC and Dianne Maxon make no guarantee, promise, warranty, or representation of any kind regarding:
The accuracy or truth of anything perceived, said, or interpreted in a session;
Whether any particular message, presence, insight, or connection will come through — or come through at all;
The identity of any consciousness, energy, or presence that may seem to be present;
Any result, benefit, healing, resolution, relief, financial gain, or life change;
The timing of any event discussed.
Results vary from person to person, and some clients experience no perceived benefit at all. You are paying for the practitioner's reserved time, preparation, and attention — not for a particular message or outcome.
3. You Remain Responsible for Your Own Life
This is the heart of these Disclaimers.
Every decision you make after a session is yours alone. You retain full and sole responsibility for your choices, actions, relationships, health, finances, career, and wellbeing. Nothing said in a session is a directive, an instruction, or advice you should follow without applying your own judgment and, where appropriate, consulting a qualified licensed professional.
You agree not to rely on any statement made in a session as the basis for any significant decision — including decisions about your health, medical treatment, medications, mental health care, relationships, marriage, parenting, employment, business, investments, property, legal matters, or safety.
If a session raises something that matters to you, verify it, think about it, and take it to someone qualified to advise you on it.
4. Not Medical Care
Returning to Self, LLC and Dianne Maxon are not licensed physicians, nurses, physician assistants, chiropractors, dietitians, or other healthcare providers, and do not practice medicine in any form. Under California Business & Professions Code § 2052, only licensed persons may diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any physical or mental condition.
Nothing offered here is:
A medical diagnosis, treatment, cure, prevention, or prescription;
A recommendation to start, stop, change, or delay any medication, therapy, treatment, or procedure;
A substitute for examination, diagnosis, or care by a licensed healthcare provider.
Always seek the advice of your physician or another qualified health provider with any question about a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice, and never delay seeking it, because of something said in a session or read on this website. If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
Do not stop or change any prescribed medication or treatment based on anything that happens in a session. Speak with your prescribing provider first.
5. Not Mental Health Care
Returning to Self, LLC and Dianne Maxon are not a licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, or professional clinical counselors. California Business & Professions Code §§ 2903, 4980, 4996, and 4999.20 reserve the practice of psychology, psychotherapy, and clinical counseling to licensed professionals.
Spiritual guidance and coaching is not psychotherapy, counseling, or mental health treatment. Sessions do not diagnose, assess, or treat any mental, emotional, or behavioral condition. The words "coaching," "guidance," "reading," and "session" as used here never mean clinical care.
If you are living with a mental health condition, in treatment, or in distress, please continue working with your licensed provider. This work can sit alongside that care. It cannot replace it, and we will not ask you to choose between them.
6. Energy Work
Some sessions may include energy work in the form of energy clearing or healing. Energy-based practices offered are complementary practices intended to support relaxation and a sense of wellbeing. They are not medical treatments.
No claim is made that energy work treats, cures, mitigates, or prevents any disease or condition.
These practices are not regulated by, evaluated by, or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any state medical board.
Energy work offered involves no physical touch and can be declined at ANY time.
Energy work is not massage therapy and is not offered as such.
Some clients report emotional release, fatigue, or heightened sensitivity afterward. If anything feels wrong during a session, say so and we will stop.
7. Mediumship and Grief
Mediumship sessions involve the attempt to perceive or connect with those who have died and passed over. Because these sessions so often come out of loss, please read this carefully.
No connection is guaranteed. A session may produce nothing, or nothing you recognize. This is not a failure on your part. Sometimes there is not an energy resonance and this indicates nothing about the client or provider.
What comes through is interpreted, not transmitted. Names, dates, and details may be partial, symbolic, or mistaken.
Nothing in a session is evidence of survival after death, of the identity of any particular person, or of anything else — in any scientific, legal, or evidentiary sense.
Sessions can be emotionally intense. They may bring grief forward rather than resolve it, and may raise feelings you were not expecting. Some people find this healing; some find it painful; many find both.
Mediumship is not grief counseling and is not bereavement therapy. If you are in acute grief, we strongly encourage you to work with a licensed grief counselor or therapist, or a bereavement support group, alongside this work. We are glad to help you look for one.
We will not knowingly conduct a mediumship session with someone in acute crisis. If that is where you are right now, please reach out for support first — see Section 9.
We ask you to come to this work with care for yourself, and to consider having someone you trust available afterward.
8. Not Legal, Financial, Tax, or Business Advice
Returning to Self, LLC and Dianne Maxon are not licensed attorneys, certified public accountants, enrolled agents, certified financial planners, investment advisers, insurance agents, or real estate professionals.
Sessions may touch on career, business, money, or legal circumstances because those are part of life. Nothing said about them is legal, tax, accounting, investment, insurance, or real estate advice, and nothing said constitutes a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security, property, or asset, or to enter into or leave any contract, employment, or business arrangement.
Consult a licensed attorney, accountant, or financial adviser before making any legal or financial decision. No statement here should be understood as a prediction of market performance, business outcome, or legal result.
9. Crisis Support
The Services are not a crisis line, and messages are not monitored continuously.
Immediate danger: call 911.
Emotional distress or crisis: call or text 988 — the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day in the United States.
Domestic violence: the National Domestic Violence Hotline is available at 1-800-799-7233.
If you are in crisis, please reach out to one of these resources or to a licensed professional. That is the right support for that moment, and this work is not a substitute for it.
If this topic is difficult for you and you would like help finding ongoing support, we are glad to point you toward resources.
10. Confidentiality Is Not Privilege
Because Returning to Self, LLC and Dianne Maxon are not licensed healthcare providers, communications during a session are not protected by physician–patient, psychotherapist–patient, or clergy–penitent privilege, and are not covered by HIPAA. We keep what you share confidential as a matter of professional practice and under our Privacy Policy — but a court could compel disclosure, and the law may require us to act on a credible threat of serious harm. Please bear this in mind when deciding what to share.
