Wretched Hollow…Waiting to Heal

“Everybody say time heals everything

But what of the wretched hollow?

The endless in-between

Are we just going to wait it out?”

From “Wait It Out”, lyrics by Imogen Heap

Have you found yourself living in the in-between space of healing? Perhaps healing from a relationship, transitioning to a new life situation, recovering from an illness, healing from a new understanding about your life? This can be a difficult space to inhabit. You may be still grieving or maybe you have gained understanding but have not yet fully incorporated that new knowledge or understanding into your life. Being on a healing journey often requires great strength and courage to look honestly at your life or move through a difficult situation. It can be painful to realize what you have lived through or lived with for so long.

A healing journey also requires great compassion toward self. It’s important to let yourself have time to grieve, cry, cocoon, watch a movie or listen to music that is soothing. It can also be important to balance not putting a timeline on when you will feel better but to also taking small steps that help you move forward. What does that look like? A short walk, drinking some water or tea, perhaps a long shower or a bath?

I asked this question and received the following channeled message:

How do we heal from the wretched hollow?

Healing is not a linear process. You don’t one day wake up feeling better but with time and patience you can begin to notice small changes. You may start to physically feel better or feel like talking with a friend. But also important to remember that it takes time for your nervous system and your energy to incorporate changes and healing. Some traumatic events require more time and patience. It can take time to energetically incorporate the changes into your construct of who you are in this lifetime. It’s important to remember that nothing is set in stone and that multiple possibilities will always remain. Know that you will one day feel better and that each new day is an invitation to move a few or perhaps many steps forward. What you perceive as set backs will happen and see them as pauses while you are becoming the new version yourself. Be patient and kind to yourself.
